DAVIDSON, James, late Indian C.S. (Bombay). Educated at High School and University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh; appointed to the Indian Civil Service after examination, 1870; arrived 11th November 1872, and served in Bombay as assistant collector and magistrate, and cantonment magistrate; on famine duty in Mysore, 1877-78; second assistant collector, November 1886; forest settlement officer, Nasik, August 1887; first assistant collector and magistrate, November 1888; acting collector of salt revenue, August 1892; junior collector and magistrate, March 1893; retired, October 1896.
