Will of James Coleman
- Pages 353-55. Will of James Coleman of the county of Orange and Parish of St. Thomas, dated 13 Oct. 1764.
- Unto my daughter Betty Scott the Negroes Sarah and Angelo which I have already delivered to her, also stock and household furniture which I have delivered to her.
- The Negroes Sampson and Jacob which I have already delivered to my son Ambrose be his sole property, and also the stock and household furniture which I have already delivered to him.
- The Negroes Harry and Sarah with the stock and household furniture which I have already delivered to my daughter Mary Holland be her sole property.
- Unto my son James, 200 acres which I bought of Henry Baily, also 200 acres which I bought of William Ogilvie, also 300 acres which was granted to me by patent 20 Sept. 1745, also 133 acres which was granted to my by patent and which is adjoining to the above mentioned patent of 200 acres, which tracts now lies in the county of Albemarle.
- Unto the said James the Negroes Cupid and Mustapher, also stock and household furniture which I ahve already delivered to him.
- Unto my niece Mary Coleman Ellis £15 current money, also one old bed and furniture and chest which she has the use of and one spinning wheel.
- All the rest and residue equally divided amongst my four children Ambrose and James Coleman, Betty Scott and Mary Holland.
- My son in law Mr. Thomas Scott executor.

- Wit: James Madison, Philip Eastin, Richard Beale, Richard Eastin.
- 22 Nov. 1764. Presented into court by Thomas Scott. Proved by James Madison, Richd. Beale and Richard Eastin. Executor with Richard Beale his security entered into bond in the sum of £200 current money.
