Facts and Events
James was born in 1844. He was married twice, first to Julia Aker and then to Sarah Alice Johnston. He was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War in company B of the 51st Virginia Infantry, commanded by General Gabriel Wharton. He enlisted when he was 18 years old. He was wounded twice during the civil war, first at the battle of Fayette Courthouse and then later at the battle of New Market. He had nine children. His parents were Rosena Cook and James Bunts. He lived in a house across the road from his older brother, John Mathas Bunts. He is buried in the Bunts cemetery. He died near Max Meadows in 1913. His middle name was Reed. |
