James received a fair education in the district schools, and afterwards attended the Northern Indiana Normal School at Valparaiso, fitting himself for a teacher. Since leaving school he taught in the district schools of the county, and at the same time is engaged in general farming, owning eighty acres of No.1 land, with good farm buildings. He and Alice were members of the Christian Church, James being Superintendent of the Sunday-school. References
