Surgeon's Mate 9th Continental Infantry, 1st January to 31st December, 1776. (Died 18th September, 1818.) DR. JAMES BRADISH. Born, Hardwick, Mass., October 21, 1752; died, Floyd, N. Y., September 18, 1818. Surgeon's mate, Ninth Continental regiment, under command of Col. David Brewer, in Roxbury camp, October 7, 1775. He was at the siege of Boston and stationed on Dorchester Heights. Served through the whole Revolutionary War as surgeon.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iapowesh/Powbios2.html: The mother of our subject bore the mainden name of Nancy Bradish and was born in Cumminton, Massachusetts, her parents being Dr. James and Irene (Townsend) Bradish... They took up their abode in Floyd, Oneida county, New York, in 1802. Dr. James Bradish was a surgeon at the siege of Boston in the Revolutionary war... The Loomis, Townsend, and Bradish families have been traced to New England pioneers of very early dates. Deacon John Bradish, the father of Dr. James Bradish, served as selectman in 1775 and was a member of the Revolutionary committee of correspondence for Hardwick, Massachusetts, from 1774 until 1777. Robert Bradish, the emigrant from England, was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at least as early as August 28, 1635.

Cummington First Congregational Church was organized July 7, 1779. The Society dissolved in 1834; the church, in 1869. The first minister was Rev. James Briggs, ordained 1779, died 1825. Early deacons included: Ebenezer Snell (1779), Barnabas Packard (1779), James Bradish (c. 1780), Abel Packard Jr. (1798), and Benoni Pratt (1798). JBC, p. 57: James Bradish (Dr.) (John4, James3, Joseph2, Robert1), born 21 Oct 1752 in Hardwick, Worcester, Massachusetts; died 18 Sep 1818 in Floyd, Oneida, New York; buried in Townsend/Laird Cemetery, Floyd. He married on 14 Jan 1779 Irene Townsend (Clark) Bradish, born 30 August 1754 in Hebron, Tolland, Connecticut; died 8 Jar 11843 at son's home in Floyd; buried in Townend/Laird Cemetery.

James was an Assistant Surgeon's Mate in Brewer's 9th Regiment at Roxbury Oct 7, 1775, Surgeon's Mate in the 9th Contintental Infantry from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 1776, and at Bunker Hill. The inscription on his headstone reads, [sic] "Retire my friends wipe off your tears here I must rest till Christ appears."

All birth dates of his children are in the Bradish Collection at the New York Genealogical and Biographical Library, New York. They were all born in Cummington.
