Often mistakenly thought to have been born in Alverstoke, Hampshire in 1804 (no relationship to either the William Bignell in Titchfield, Hampshire and no known relationship to the unmarried convict, William Bignell who was transported to Australia in 1813).

THE Commissioners for hearing and determining upon Claims to Grants of Land within the Colony of New South Wales, under the Act of the Governor and Council 4th Wm. IV. No. 9, do hereby give Notice that they have appointed the several Day set opposite the same respectively, at the Supreme Court-house, King street, Sydney, at Ten o'clock in the forenoon, for hearing and determining the undermentioned Memorials, of which the several claimants interested therein, are hereby required to take notice.

Campbell and Co., to sell by auction, at the Royal Hotel, West Maitland, on THURSDAY, 21st February, at Twelve o'clock, to close accounts,The Unsold Portions of the Estates belonging to theEstate of the late Mr. Walter Thomson.
Lot 11, on the Williams River, fronting a portion of Rookin's Grant, and lying between Mr. James Bignell's farm on the Chichester River and that of Mr.Wm. Fisher's on the Williams, and containing Lot 12, on the Williams River, adjoining Mr. Wm. Fisher's farm, and next to Rookin's Grant of 2569 acres, comprising in this lot 580 acres.

PARISH ROAD from the Bandon Grove Crossing place, at the Williams River, to tho Cedar Road, leading to the Little River, running through the lands supposed to be the property of Alexander Smith, Samuel Kingston, James Bignell, James Kingston, James Barnes, A. Tighe, George Skelton, and John Hutchinson, and through Crown lands : Plan and Book of Reference, showing the intended line of tho road abovenamed, are now deposited at the Office of the Surveyor-General, in Sydney, and at the Police Office, Dungog. All objections to be addressed, in writing, to the Clerk of the Executive Council, within one month from 23rd June, 1868.

NOTICE is hereby given that, after the expiration of fourteen days from the publication hereof, APPLICATION WILL BE MADE to this Honorable Court that PROBATE of the LAST WILL and TESTAMENT of the above-named deceased may be granted to JOHN CHARLES SMITH, of Sydney, in the said Colony, Agent, and JOHN WALKER, of Dungog, in the said Colony, Miller, the Executors named in said Will.

There is no relationship between the Hampshire Bignells and either of the Bignells (James or William) who ended up in Australia
