1) DEATH: Died near Red Hill, Ala., on Tuesday, Nov 25 [1873], James Berry in his 81st year. Mr. Berry was born in S.C. and when quite young removed to Ala. He was the father of 18 children and had up to the day of his death, 79 grandchildren. Consistent member of Baptist Church.(Huntsville Advocate - Dec. 4, 1873)
2) James ran a saloon at Red Hill, a horse-powered gin and a ground hog thresher. He moved to Brindlee Mountain on the Birmingham Stagecoach line and kept a tavern there where travelers coming on the stagecoach could lodge.
