From link no longer good ... was descended from John Bailey, who came from Chippenham, England, being shipwrecked at Pemaquid (now Bristol), Maine in the great storm on the 15th of August, 1635. He settled first at Newbury, Massachusetts, and in 1639 became one of the founders of Salisbury, Massachusetts.
