- Not to be confused with James Alexander (1652-bef. 1740), called "The Weaver", is the uncle of this James Alexander, and whose wife was also named Mary.
(NOTE: Although the wife of James "The Weaver" was named Mary, there is no proof at all that her maiden name was Steele.)
Will Abstract
- In his will, he referred to himself as “James Alexander Carpenter of New Munster” and named three sons, Joseph, John, and Francis.
- Francis was referred to as the youngest.
- He mentioned the "bringing up of my four Children", so presumably he also had a daughter, not mentioned by name.
- Also named in the will was his wife, Mary, father-in-law, John Steel “yeoman,” and brother, Francis Alexander “weaver.”
- By 1724, Mary Steele Alexander was married to her second husband, Adam Rankin.
- According to Rankin genealogy, the name of Adam Rankin’s second wife was Mary Steele.
