- Yoakum, Jacob - born 12/1753 in Hardy County, Virginia, where he entered service 1778 in Virginia company; granted Pension there in 1833; William Heath & Anthony Baker made affidavits there then per presiding Judge Charles A. Finley & County Court Clerk James Carr Gamble; soldier died there 5/1838; married 10/8/1782 to Mary Magdalen Wilton/Welton, Hampshire County, Virginia; widow applied for Pension age 88 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, 1840 & Pension Application rejected; died there 3/23/1841; daughter Rebekah wife of Michael Neef applied for Pension there in 1846 & Pension Application rejected; soldier's surname also spelled Yoahum/Yoakhum/Yokum/Yocum; query letter in file 1930 from descendant Elizabeth Pope Hoefler, Tacoma, Washington, states soldier had son Jacob Jr. & also querier was a descendant from Pennsylvania Revolutionary War soldier Peter Pope who resided 1790 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania & died in West Virginia.
