Research Notes
Not to be confused with: Jacob Whisler (3)
, husband of Sarah Jackson, also of Wayne and Hamilton counties in Indiana.
- Jacob's family used the spelling "Wissler" on his headstone, therefore it is listed as the preferred spelling on this page. As can be seen from other sources, however, the surname was spelled in various ways throughout the records.
- In 1840 census, Jacob is listed next to Daniel Waltz, Jr. and Sr. - possible family connection (brother and father) to his wife Sarah Waltz.
- cos1776 Note: For 1850 census, previous notes said "Abington Twp, Wayne, Indiana p. 301", but this is not where I found Jacob and Sarah - see citation - they are in Washington Twp, Wayne, Indiana.

Jacob M Whistler was born in Lancaster, Penn, Jan. 25, 1813, being the second child of a remarkable family of 14 children. In 1822 with his parents he emigrated to Wayne County, Indiana. In 1838 he was united to marriage to Sarah Waltz. This marriage proved a happy union of fifty years, being finally broken on earth by the death of his wife in Nov 1888. In the year of 1851 with his family, he moved to Hamilton county, and settled on a farm northwest of Millesburg. He then became one of the pioneers of this township, and a witness and participant in its birth and development from the swampy roadless wilderness to the new pretty farms and villages. The deceased was a quiet, kind and generous father and husband being well liked by his neighbors for his quiet and kind disposition always ready to help the sick and needy. He passed quietly away from this life August 17, 1898, after a lingering illness of several months, aged 85 years, 9 months, and 22 days. He leaves to mourn therr loss seven brothers and sisters, the oldest being now 88 years, five sons, one daughter, 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and a host of friends and other relatives. Interment took place with Dunkard cemetery, one half mile east of Arcadia. Funeral services conducted by Elder Elias Smeltzer. ----- [Note: clipping located in a binder titled "Hamilton Obituaries, 1883-1949" in North Hamilton Library, Cierco, Indiana.]
