In the 1900 census: Jacob and Emma were married for 17 years, which puts their year of marriage at about 1883 Lists Jacob's birth date as October 1856; Emma's as April 1859 Living with them were children Elmer, Bessie, Elsie, Ralph, and Baby (Arthur) Both sets of parents were born in Germany . In the 1910 census: Four of Jacob and Emma Stephan's children were living with them: Elmer (age 25) employed as a bookkeeper; Elsie (age 22) employed as a librarian; Ralph (age 13); and Arthur (age 11). Jacob's age was listed as 53, which would put his YOB at about 1857. Jacob's occupation was woodcarver, working at home. .
