One evening around 10:00 the family heard the bells on the horse and sleigh when they were expecting Jacob home from jury duty in Lancaster. When Jacob did not come into the house as soon as the family thought he should, his son, Sam, went out to check on him. Jacob was found dead by the sleigh.
