Jacob Rhoads- Born 6 JUN 1763. Died in 1832 in Macoupin Co. Illinois. Married on 7 OCT 1786 in Hardin or Grayson Co, Kentucky to Alcinda "Alsey" Van Meter (25 OCT 1752, Frederick Co, VA - 1828 in Grayson Co, Kentucky.

Born near Fort Pitt, a British outpost named after the Prime Minister, William Pitt, which stood on the present day site of the City of Pittsburgh. He was born during the was with Pontiac, the same year his parents bought a lot at Fort Bedrord. The siege of Fort Pitt occurred during that same year.

He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He acted as a spy for the colonists and as a reward for the danger and risk he ran was awarded 7,000 acres of land by the government. Emigrated from PA to Kentucky shortly after the close of the Revolutionary War. He settled in Hardin Co close to the present town of Elizabethtown. He was young and unmarried and so was called upon to engage in the pursuit of Indians, who frequently committed depraditions on the scattered white settlements.(see "A History of Macoupin Co., Illinois, by Brink, pub 1879) Jacob was a member of the George Rogers Clark expedition to Kaskaskia and continued to serve Clark and the Government serving in the Militia.
