It is assumed that Benjamin Lowe is the son of Jacob and an unknown first wife because Laura is obviously not old enough to have borne Benjamin; also because of the difference in ages between Benjamin and the baby William. Benjamin is 10 years old, but Laura and Jacob have been married only two years. In this 1900 census Jacob and Laura are living next household to his parents, William and Sarah Lowe.
