GEERLOF JANSZ, 158 Notes for CORNELISGEN HEGEMAN: A burgomaster of Harderwijk, he was banished by the Duke of Alba, Spanish governor of the Netherlands, on 5 April 1568, for his being a heretic and having participated in the iconoclastic riots on 22 Sept. 1566. The Netherlands were under strict Spanish rule. He returned to Harderwijk in 1578, becomes alderman in 1582 and dies before April 1589.
