Arrived in America 21 September 1742, from Rotterdam, Holland on the English ship Francis & Elizabeth, with George Noarth as Captain. On the same day he arrived he took the oath of allegiance to King George of England, as was required by the laws of the colony of Pennsylvania. On the passenger list Jacob Hauck was listed as a foreigner form Rotterdam, Holland that he was single, able to sign his own name and was a freeman. SOURCE: Herbert C. Hawk Winfield, Kansas, June1950: Strassberger & Hinke in their 3 volume set, Pennsylvania German Pioneers have published all of these lists from 1732 - 1808 including photostatic copies of their signatures. Jacob Hauck appears in Volume 1, page 327 & on the next page is the oath of allegiance. Volume 3 has a copy of his signature. The Virgil Hawk record confirms the changing of the Dutch spelling of the name from Hauck to Hawk.
