Jacob Francis was born about 1801-1805 according to census records. He lived in Ohio where all of his children were born, between 1830-1844. He may have been the Jacob Francis that patented 80 acres on a homestead and cash entry-patent, issued on 2 May 1827, in the land office in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also could have been the Jacob Francis who was listed in Tax Records from 1828 to 1834 in Sunsbury and Monroe Township, Monroe County, Ohio
Jacob Francis appears to have been married twice; first in about 1827 to his first wife [and likely mother of all but one of his children], whose name is unknown, Jacob married 2nd, Elizabeth Sommers on 4 July 1844 in Grundy County, Illinois. Jacob died in 1847 and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth was listed in the 1850 Census in Carroll County, Missouri with her step-children: William [age 20], Lyon S. [age 18], Mary A. [age 13], Esther [age 12], Thomas [age 10], Alexander [age 7] and Henry [age 6].
There are several Ancestry Trees suggesting Elizabeth Sommers as the mother of all of Jacob's children, but the marriage record in 1844 clearly rules her out as the mother of all but the last child, Henry Clay Francis, born in January 1845. Additional research is needed to determine the identity of Jacob Francis' first wife.
