Facts and Events
Data from M.L. Ballante [EM-IL 2]; also Doug Mumma [EM-KS 1] after Beth Taylor. Name and spouse and DOM from AFN: 19BN-N7B. 1840 census: Jacob is living in New Albany, Floyd County, IN; he and spouse are between 30-40; they have 4 boys and 2 girls. No other info given on census record. [EM-XX 31; roll 79, page 114; Ancestry.com]. 1860 Census: age 55; living in Princeton Twp., Scott Co, IA; occupation is taylor (sic); has $200; born IN; Roll 340, page 84; spouse is Sarah J.; children = Charles, Peter, George [EM-IA 5]. 1870 Census: living in Princeton, Scott Co., IA; age 65; born PA ~1805; $300 in real estate, $200 in personal property; occupation is illegible, but possibly pastor or painter; father was foreign born. [EM-IA 2; page 1, roll ??; enumerated June 10, 1870; Ancestry.com]; also in this household is son Peter, age 21, and a 32-year-old male, Hel___ Thomas, born ~1838; occupation illegible, but worked in some kind of shop. He does not show up in Heritage Quest database for this year; the only Jacob listed is in PA born MD in 1791. I could not find the name Emeigh in the Passenger and Immigration Lists in the LDS library; perhaps the name was changed upon entry to the USA. POB is PA from 1880 census info on son Charles [EM-SD 3]. DOM is from Fam History Library Film 30946205 (not seen); FTM CD #400 in TX History Library. Marriage date is same as birthdate of Elizabeth. [EM-XX 8]. If he died in NE, he probably followed his son Jacob Jr. there; Jr is there in the 1880 census. EM-XX 18 is a RootsWeb site that has info on some Emeighs, lots of Emighs, etc.- mostly in Dutchess and other NY counties. Not sure if mine. References
