Coles Co. History: " Jacob remained on his father's farm in PA until their move to WV which took place when he was a young man. When 28 years of age he was united in marriage with Miss Jane Sutton, a native of SC, whence she moved with her parents to WV, probably when a child. After a time, Jacob purchased a tract of land in Grayson Co., KY where he farmed a few years and then engaged in merchandising until his removal to IL in the fall of 1856 where he purchased land in Paradise Township."

His middle initial "H" was on his tombstone.
