JACOB BUTLER lived in Frederick County, Maryland. He later moved to Bedford County, Virginia. He later moved to Anderson County, Tennessee.

Jacob had settled in East Fork Valley near the present Anderson - Roane County line and across Black Oak Ridge in 1805. He purchased land from his father and brothers on Main Poplar Creek. He purchased land from James Standifer (Anderson County Deed Book C, Page 25), Jacob Keith (Anderson County Deed Book C, Page 105), and Charles McClung (Anderson County Deed Book J, Page 34). Jacob's name appears many times in Anderson County Court minutes as overseer from roads and for jury duty. He also had litigation with Edward Freels over land titles.
