From June 1948 to Jan 1949 Jack worked for a plumber in Malta, Montana. In Januaury Jack moved to Glasgow, Montana to care for his ailing father. Jack and his wife cared for his father until his death on July 2, 1949. He and his family remained in Glasgow until May 1951. He worked for an electrician, named Ed Johnson, during his time in Glasgow.

He returned to the Bitterroot Valley in March of 1952 and worked for ranches again. In July of 1953 (possibly 1952) Jack went to work for the Anaconda Company.

In 1954 through 1956 Jack worked for John Deere in Fort Benton, Montana while on strike from the Anaconda Company. The strike ended and Jack returned to work in January of 1956. In 1960 Jack was transferred to the Weed Concentrator Plant in Butte, Montana. He would work two week rotating shifts of days, afternoons, and nights.
