Hays Dies Here Last Night Death Separates Couple Which Celebrated 64th Anniversary of Wedding Last Month Death last night separated the couple which held the marriage record for Hughes county. John Charles Hays, who married Elizabeth Hays 64 years ago, died at 6:30 last night after an illness of almost a year. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 this afternoon at the First Baptist church by Rev. J. E. Kirk. Burial was in Holdenville cemetery under direction of Mackeys. Born in Missouri, he moved to Arkansas where he first met Mrs. Hays at an early age, and then moved to Fannin County, Texas, in 1870. A short time after reaching Texas, on March 10, 1870, he married the woman who survives him. They left Texas in 1901 and moved to Holdenville where they have since resided. Hays is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Hays, three daughters, Mrs. John Hunt of Yeager, Mrs. Ora Hunt of Holdenville and Mrs. Alice Painter of Holdenville, and two sons, Frank Hays and Bud Hays both of Holdenville. . Note: John was born in Alabama to Narcissis and John Hays. He went to Fannin County after he married Elizabeth Birks [various spellings] in Erath County Texas. References
