WINF: Y

From "The Winfrey Family" book. We do not know just how or when Israel Jefferson Winfrey made the trip from Casey county Kentucky to Boone county Missouri, but we do know he married Catharine Ann Dunn, daughter of James and Margaret Dunn, in Boone county on 25 December 1834. The Dunn family had moved to Boone county from Fayette county Kentucky in 1824, when "Kitty Ann" was five years old. I have talked with Robert Martin, son of Virginia Lee Winfrey and John William Martin, and he told me, "Ma always said her father came to B oone county on horseback". This was all Bob knew about the trip, an he is the e only person I have ever talked to who knew anything about it. Israel was a well respected man in the community and was a Justice of the Peace for Boo ne county for several years. He was a devout member of the Nashville Baptist church and a member of the Masonic lodge. On numerous occasions he was appointed as guardian for various orphans. Israel and "Kitty Ann" remained in Bo one county all their lives. Israel was the 10th of 13 children born to Henry Winfrey and Sarah Thomas. All six of the boys and at least two of the girls , Lucy Adkins and Mary F. "Polly" Adkins, migrated from Casey county Kentucky to either Boone or Carroll counties in Missouri, before Henry and Sarah move d to Carroll county in 1834. Israel was the only one of the six sons who were still living when Henry died in Carroll county in 1849. "The Winfrey Family" by James Clifton Winfrey 1982 Published by Prints Valiant 1449 W.
