Facts and Events
Having received news in Feb 1835 that David Crockett had crossed the Red River and entered the district, she rode out on her own (accompanied by Jane Latimer) to meet him. He was on his way from John Stiles's home at White Rock to William Becknell's place west of Clarksville, but she warned him of a Comanche raiding party in the area and persuaded him to wait for an escort.[3] She also played host to Sam Houston on his first night in Texas, Dec 1832.[4] The Dallas Morning News published her life story in a feature article in January 1894.
