About Isaac Weaver Zent

Isaac Weaver Zent was born on 5 October, 1837 in Jefferson Township, Madison, Richland County, Ohio, the son (and 11th child) of George Zent and Sarah Weaver, of Richland County, Ohio. Isaac married Mary Burton Ruland before 1868 in Ohio.

Isaac and Mary came to California sometime before 1877, when he was listed on the Oakland, CA City Directory and 1880, when he was listed as a Mining Superintendant in the 1880 Census (listed below). Two of his brothers, John and Sampson also spent some time working in California during the "Gold Rush" time period from 1850 - 1860. He seems to be the only one that decided to stay in California. Isaac owned a large block of property in the Oakland area that was wiped out during the San Francisco earthquake in 1906.

Isaac Weaver Zent died on 22 November, 1908 in Merced, California, at age 71. Isaac and his wife Mary are buried at Mountain View Memorial Park, Oakland, California.
