Bill, Isaac Smith was the first child of John Adam and Eliza Pickerell Smith. He was born 14 September 1822 in Frederick County, Virginia. He married Mary Ann Snedeker 22 June 1845 in Holmes County, Ohio. The 1860 census have them living in the township of Blooming Grove, Franklin County, Indiana. Isaac served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a Corporal in Co. H, 134th Infantry, Indiana Volunteers. The 134th regiment was organized at Indianapolis, Indiana and mustered in 25 May 1864. They were ordered to Tennessee and assigned to railroad guard duty in Tennessee and Alabama, with the Department of the Cumberland, until September 1854, having served 100 days. He was mustered out 2 September 1864. The regiment lost 32 men during their service, all by disease. In the month of July 1864, while on duty in Decater, Alabama, Isaac was taken with Chronic Diarrhea. He was taken to the hospital at Nashville, Tennessee.
