Isaac Putman was a blacksmith by trade, but gave it up and engaged in the mercantile business at Cranesvillage, New York, where he remained for some years and met with considerable sucess for those easly days, it being at the time the Erie canal was under construction. Later he retired from his mercantile business and bought a farm five miles north in the town of Charlton, Saratoga county, New York, on which they remained until they died. Their interment is in the West Galway cemetery, two miles from their old home.
