The baptism records of his daughters (1824-1831) give his occupation as "labourer;" in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, he was a farmer (of 6 acres in 1851); in the 1861 census he was a "farmer & carter;" and in the 1881 census he was a "farm labourer."
