Having been cw soldier, buried in national cem. Praetor collection shows his death date 17 Jun 1923 in Englewood, CA. Marilyn Corbin shared that her great aunt Evelyn wrote to her mother saying that grandpa Mullen (Isaac) at age 16 (and 5'6") just left horses in the field when he left to join the civil war ( for the North) and he was made a drummer boy because he was so young. He was reportedly captured and served time in both Libby and Andersonville POW camps. He was a private in K Co., 65th Reg. Ohio volunteers, discharged at Camp Chase, OH 7 Jun 1862, but that he also served with D9 Co. Cavalry Oct. 12, 1863-Jun 1865. Actually that could be very consistant with the civil war procedure of exchanging prisoners of war with the agreement that they would not return to their units (then both sides merely reassigned them to different units; so the entire exchange practice ended towards the third year of the war). Marilyn said that he lived in New Jersey, Ohio, Missouri, and California; and that his death certificate give death date as 17 Jun 1923 (used here). Marilyn Corbin reports that there is Irish heritage of Mullan families in County Galway, including notorious Shane Mullen of Derry who was hanged with two sons as a raider avenging for his property conviscation in 1729. She has other stories regarding the family name and pre-American history. June 24, 2000 Marilyn Corbin faxed the military pension records for Issac which (in 13 pages) contain considerable data of his military and family. Summary of his service report: private Co. K 65 Ohio Inf. Nov. 4, 1861 to June 7 1862 and again in Co.D 9th OH Cav. Oct. 12, 1863 to June 1865. Discharged at the close of the war with disabiities (typhoid pneumonia in left lung and general enfeebled state. He had been wounded once in the head and was at a Camp Chase, OH hospital.
