First appeared in the Newark City Directory in 1902-03, occupation Blacksmith, living at 191 Clinton. In 1904-05, I.P. Hoodlet, wife Emma, were proprietors of the Hotel Columbia and resided at 28 S. 5th. In 1905-06, Porter Hoadlet and wife Emma were living at 19 N. 4th St., and Porter was a blacksmith. In 1911-12, Mrs Emma M. Hoodlett was proprietor of the Hotel Franklin at 21 S. 3rd. 1915-16 was the last entry as proprietors of the Hotel Franklin. The family also lived at the Hotel Franklin during those years. By 1917-18 the family had moved to 39 Clinton, and the daughters were employed. Grace M. was a phone operator at Newark Telephone Co.. E. Kathryn was a clerk at C.H. Huber Co., and I. Porter was a blacksmith at Murphy Brothers. I.P. Hoodlett continued as a blacksmith through 1922. In 1924 he was an attendant at the Standard Oil Co., and lived at 47-1/2 S. 2nd. That continued to be his occupation through 1930. I remember him as a ticket taker at a movie theater in Newark in the 1940's. References
