Facts and Events
Registered at Cane Creek, NC 12/03/1774. Isaac Harvey was the second son of the children of William and Judith Harvey. He married Martha Newlin in 1740 at the Concord Meeting, a Quaker group organized by her great-grandfather and named by William Penn himself. They were the parents of nine children.
Isaac Harvey's tenure in the shipping business at Wilmington was interrupted by war. According to the Pennsylvania Archives, he served with the "Associators and Militia" in the War of the American Revolution. The shipping trade having been negatively affected by the war, Isaac moved with his family to North Carolina where fine homesteads on running streams could be entered. Many of their friends had already settled there in the growing community of Quakers at Cane Creek in Orange County. It was to be home for the remainder of his life of 89 years. (Taken from A Family History, by Donovan Faust) Isaac was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, though he was born in 1718. His name is included in the list of white male inhabitants of the Township of Upper and Lower Chichester in the proper classes. (That is) Newlin Township, 6th class, Pennsylvania Archives, 5th series, Vol. 5, page 792. This record was accepted by the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), on June 20, 1933 as a supplemental record. The DAR number of the author Ethel Jones McEwen, is 256,026 on the service of Daniel Bonine. The record of George Madden, wife Edith (Harvey) Reynolds, widow of John Reynolds, was accepted Feb. 14, 1934. From Indiana Magazine of History, Vol.33, 1937, page 243.
