FAINIsaac Anderson Fain was born in Rogersville, East Tennessee, July 12, 1844, and passed away at his home in Whitebreast township, January 9, 1917, at 10 o'clock a.m. He was a son of Richard G. and Eliza Anderson Fain and was one of thirteen children. The father, mother and all the brothers and sisters have passed away, but one brother, R. C. Fain, of Carrollton, Ill., who was not able to be present.He joined the first Cavalry raised in Hawkins county, East Tenn., and served four years in the Confederate army. He was under generals Bragg and Longstreet and was in the battle of Chickamauga and other noted battles and was famous for his bravery. He came to Lucas county, Iowa, in the spring of 1874.He was married to Martha Victoria James Nov. 23, 1876, who passed away, Sept. 3, 1902. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Lillie Bonnett of Chariton, Iowa, Rhea Fain, of Junction City, Kansas; Mrs. Olive Egloff, of Cedar Rapids, Mich.; and Jessie, who died Jan. 1, 1886. He also leaves three grandchildren, Isaac A. and Margaret Fain, and Martha V. Bonnett.He was known to most everyone in this county, and it might be said that his friends were numbered by the score. He was a man of sterling qualities and noted for his cheerfulness, kindness, generosity and hospitality. He was a friend to the G.A.R. Iseminger Post, and as a token of love and esteem they placed a silk flag in his casket, the last act of kindness it was their privilege to do.He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Rogersville, Tenn., and never transferred his membership from that organization. He was a great student of the Bible. He was also a member of the Masonic and Knights of Pythias fraternities of this city.Funeral services were conducted from the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Bonnett, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J. W. Goodsell, pastor of the M. E. church of Chariton, and the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.
