BIOGRAPHY: From Saddle-Bags to Satellites - Shadrach D. Ball: His Ancestry and Descendents Author: Ball, Harold Eugene Publication: Uniontown, Kansas: Ball Printing Service, 1990 Note: Used heavily for the descendents of Jane (Walker) Ball. Extensive catalogue with commentary and many photos. Found in several libraries, the book is strongly recommended for Ball researchers. The copy loaned to me was missing pages 257-304, covering portions of the family of Arthur Ingalls Ball. Note: Sources often cited, typically being close family members Repository: Note: Copy loaned by author Media: Book Page: 43 Harold E. Ball writes extensively on this family on pags 366-374. Isaac, at about age 10, lost his left arm in an accident at a sorgum mill. The details have been lost to history, but it involved the team of horses running the mechanism that ran amuck. He did become literate, unlike some of his siblings, was clerk of the district court, operated a restaurant, and was an accomplished pen and ink artist. Harold book includes two of those drawings.

Harold (pages 371-373) quotes Media Ball Kimmerling extensively about Glena. According to her story, Forrest (Media's father and Isaac's son) had no well at one point and brought in drinking water in a barrel from a well owned by Nels Hawkins nearby. The barrel, on a sled, was kept under a tree near the house, and Forrest's wife kept a clean white cloth tied over the top.

One morning, while Forrest was milking the cows and Dora was making breakfast, Dora went to get water to make coffee. Noticing that the cloth was not attached to the barrel as well as she normally kept it. There were only two or three inches of water in the barrel, and she noticed white at the bottom and white bubbles at the top. Dora called Forrest over, and Nels Hawkins also examined the barrel. They took a sample to a druggist in Blue Mound who tested the family and found large quantities of arsenic.

As they investigated, they found out that a neighbor, John Ohara, had seem a woman in black walking down the road who was distinctive; it seems that one of Glena's legs was shorter than the other. They also determined that Glena had purchased a train ticket from Elsmore to Oakwood, and she returned to Elsmore the next day.
