Irvin Reynolds was a mechanic, a farmer and ran a grocery or general store, according to his son Ransom.

He married Nancy Browning in Pike County, Illinois, on 21 Aug 1834. They lived the rest of their lives in Martinsburg township, Pike County, Illinois, most of that time on the same farm next to William C. Browning.

In a family history chart he wrote for his nephew in 1931, Ransom Reynolds, Irvin and Nancy's son, said that his father was Irvin Reynolds, his Reynolds uncles were Washington, Woodson, and Levi, his aunt was Zerelda Elledge, and the they lived in Louisville, Missouri. Louisville was the hamlet in Waverly township, Lincoln, MO.

Irvin and Nancy Reynolds had 11 or 12 children. In 1931 when he filled out his chart, Ransom said they had 13.
