From the Monona (IA) Outlook Irene Holly, 94 Irene Elizabeth Holly died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor. She was 94. Funeral services were held at 11 am on Friday, July 13, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona. Fr. Ron Friedel officiated, with burial at the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monona. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Irene was born on January 1, 1907, in Allamakee County, the second daughter of John and Anna Moses. She attended the Figge Country School though eighth grade and stayed at home to help with the farm work. She was married to Elmer Holly on November 18, 1925. To this union two children were born, Norbert and Delores. The couple farmed for a number of years before moving to Monona in 1938. After the children were through school, Irene did painting and wallpapering for many people in the area. She managed the meal site for eight years and received an award from the governor in 1993. ______________________________ Gazette, The (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, IA) - July 11, 2001 Irene Elizabeth Holly, 94, of McGregor, formerly of Monona, died Tuesday morning, July 10, 2001, in the Great River Care Center, McGregor, after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, by Father Ronald Friedel. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, where there will be a wake service at 2:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Survivors include a son, Norbert of Monona; and a daughter, Delores Kurth of Luana.
