| One dead in truck crash on Burnett Highway
ONE person is dead and another injured after two trucks collided on the Burnett Highway, west of Gympie.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of the Burnett Highway and Murgon Gayndah Rd, Booubyjan, just before 9pm Tuesday.
The highway was closed overnight until about 10.30am Wednesday.
A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said it is believed one truck was loaded with campervans and the other with cattle, with reports of “cattle everywhere”.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said a second person — a man aged in his 50s — suffered head and chest injuries. He was treated at the scene and then flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.
A large amount of diesel also spilt on to the road.
Three fire trucks are responding to the incident.
The Burnett Highway was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours.

| Parents lose court bid to have showman son buried in Brisbane
THE grieving parents of a showman killed in a road accident last month went to the Supreme Court to try to stop the State Coroner releasing his body for cremation in NSW.
Dorothy and Robert Trindall believe their son Ian, 37, a fifth-generation showman, would have wanted to be buried in the family plot in Brisbane, where his showman grandfather was buried.
But Ian’s wife Rebecca Trindall, from whom he had been separated for three years, wanted him cremated in Coffs Harbour, where she and the couple’s two children live.
“Our six-year-old daughter is asking when her Daddy will come home for his funeral,” Rebecca Trindall said in a court statement.
Mr and Mrs Trindall had begun making funeral arrangements for their son when Rebecca Trindall informed the Coroner she was next of kin and applied for release of his body.
Ian, who was driving a truck from Gladstone to Dalby, was killed in a collision with another truck on April 7.
In a court affidavit, Mr Trindall said: “I am a showman, as my son was a showman and his grandfather Gordon Trindall was a showman. We believe that a family must be together in life and death.”
Mr Trindall said since he had separated from Rebecca, Ian had mostly stayed at his parents’ home when not travelling with him on the circuit.
“Although Ian and I never spoke directly of what his wishes would be, I truly believe he would have wanted to be buried at Mount Gravatt, where his grandfather is buried,” Dorothy Trindall said in an affidavit.
Rebecca Trindall claimed she and Ian still had “a loving relationship” before his death, despite being separated. They spoke daily and had hoped to be reconciled, court documents show.
On Friday, a Supreme Court judge in Brisbane refused Dorothy Trindall’s application.
Mr Trindall yesterday said he and his wife would be attending their son’s funeral and cremation in Coffs Harbour on Friday.
