Hugh joined the Ampleforth Benedictine community in September 1932. He then went to Oxford University in 1939, gaining a degree in Modern History. He was on holiday in Llandudno when he suddenly died there.

There is an excellent obituary published online by the Benedictines.

My Grandmother, Agnes Murtagh was Godmother to Hugh, and I am sure she must have been very proud of him.
