1. Military Service: Revolutionary War soldier.
2. Story. 3954 Hugh Montgomery, son of Robert, was born 1705 and died 1785. He married Caroline Anderson of Virginia in 1726 and they settled in what is now Roanoke County, Virginia. They had children Hugh (1727), Robert (1729), Joseph (1731), William (1733), Mary (1735), Martha (1737), Jane (1739), John (1741), Samuel (1743), and Thomas (1745). [Note this is a very regular series of children, with each one born 2 years after the previous. Suspicious.]
3. Story. 3955 It is said that Hugh and all seven of his sons participated in the Revolutionary War and all lived to return home, in spite of the fact that Hugh was 71 years of age when he enlisted in the service of his country. Hugh was a private in Captain Arthur Smith's company, Fourth Virginia Regiment. The end of the war found Hugh broken in both health and fortune. After a few years he left his native state and emigrated with some other members of his family to Kentucky where they founded a colony. He died near Lexington, KY, in 1785. His wife Caroline preceded him about 18 years, dying in Virginia at 56 years of age.
