Taken from the internet submitter - Laverne Edward Olney: Hugh Alexander came to the United States when he was but a teenager. We have been told by our grandmothers that he was about fifteen years of age. Family legend states that he was an indentured person, which means that he was 'bound' or under the apprenticeship of someone who had probably paid his passage to the United States, and through this benefactor he was learning a trade, and paying off his debt to his benefactor. This was a very common practice in the early days. As of this writing there has been no proof of this apprenticeship found, however the writer did find some information on the internet that contradicts what we have previously been told or had 'proof' of. Recently while 'surfing' the internet the writer of this genealogy found that Hugh and Charlotte were married in Dearborn Co., Indiana, not Iowa as previously thought and shown by a copy of a marraige license. The writer now wonders if this 'copy of a marraige license' was from a Family Bible which sometimes have marraige certificates. The writer also found data that states that Hugh was a 'Junior', there have been rumors in this family that that was the case, so that further proves that this is true.REF: Dearborn County, Indiana website: 'Freewill Church' Text under'Sparta', pg. 402'Hugh Alexander had a son downed in the creek, under circumstancessome what indicative of foul play'.
