Facts and Events
- Hubert MARSHALL married Janet STIRLING, daughter of John Stirling, 11aug1800 at Glasgow (IGI). Hubert Marshall, esq., Glasgow merchant, married Miss Stirling, eldest daughter of John Stirling, esq., of Tullichewan, 11aug1800 at Cordale (Edinburgh Magazine, Old Glasgow Exhibition notes and indexes).
- Hubert was barrack master at Dunbarton ("Minute Book of the Board of green cloth"). Scottish archives have the wills of 2 Glasgow merchants named Hubert Marshall, reg 1806 and 1811 (scotlandspeople). In 1801 PO Directory Glasgow: Hubert Marshall, Dumbarton and Paisley barrack-master, Argyll Ct.
- Hubert and Janet left issue - (1) the late General Hubert Marshall of the Indian Army, and (2) Janet, married to Sir William Hamilton of Preston, Professor of Logic in the University of Edinburgh. General Marshall left a large family, but the only one of his children now connected with Glasgow is Hubert Marshall of the Bank of Scotland, Hillhead (Minute Book of the Board of green cloth).
