He died right after Christmas in 1985. Grandson Ken flew down from Alaska, where his brother Howard picked him up in an old Fiat. After a hair-raising ride from Sea-Tac International to the Group Health hospital in Bellevue, they spent about 20 minutes with him before he died. He was apparently unconscious, but somehow waited until Ken got there. Per his wishes, Lang was cremated, and we scattered his ashes in the mountains.
