    Memorial rites held Monday for contractor Howard Barnes - A memorial service for Howard C. Barnes was conducted Monday.

    Mr. Barnes died Thursday, Dec. 19, at his home in Estes Park. Born July 28, 1922, in Hutchinson, Kan., he was 69. Mr. Barnes married Mildred "Mid" Barnes on Nov. 6, 1943, in Hutchinson. He had been an Estes Park resident since 1977.

    Mr. Barnes retired in 1988 after 30 years as a general contractor. For 14 years he was the owner of Barnes Construction and co-owner of Barnes Interiors. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Estes Park, the Lion's Club, the VFW and the Friday Niters. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 119 and the founding president of Estes Valley Contractor's Association. For more than three years he served the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

    Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Mid Barnes of Estes Park; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diann and Webster Sill of Central City and Gwen Barnes of Arvada; three grandchildren, Laura, Alisa and Emily Sill, all of Central City; and a niece and nephew, Donna Gazda and Dale Farney, both of Houston.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Farney of Hutchinson.

    The memorial service was at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jan Sumner officiatd. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church or Estes Park Hospice, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, Estes Park Chapel, P. O. Box 4380, Estes Park.
