Hosea was a cotton weaver, born in the Burnley area in England. He came to Canada with the Fortes family in the early 1880's to work as a weaver in the cotton mills in Valleyfield, Quebec and then in Cornwall, Ontario. His WWI enlistment record in 1916 shows him as a widower, living in Cambellford. It describes him as 5'2" with a dark complexion, blue eyes and black hair and a methodist.
