Enlisted as a Private on 13 August 1862 Enlisted in Company K, 23rd Infantry Regiment Wisconsin on 13 August 1862. Mustered out Company K, 23rd Infantry Regiment Wisconsin on 04 July 1865 in Mobile, AL

"Owatonna- Home Wardwell, a Blacksmith of this place, has instituted a suit against the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway company for damages. Wardwell was put off of a train for refusing to pay the 10 cents extra demanded by the conductor because he had not purchased a ticket." -Mitchell (South Dakota) Republican 26 March 1890
