Homer Clyde RHODES MILITARY: In Company H. of the 180th Infantry Regiment Homer C. Rhodes, Eufaula Oklahoma was a gunner on a light machine gun, and saw the members of his squad, one by one become casualties. Without hesitiation he took over the duties of assistant gunner and ammunition bearer for another gun in addition to his own duties. Disregarding the heavy German mortar barrages which were falling, he remained with his gun. When his gun became to hot to use, he made a trip across the open ground to get another one. He fired so much that his ammunition was exhausted and went to get more, not only for himself, but also for other gunners. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
