  19. 186th OVI in Civil War at age 17.
    Notes on the 186th: This regiment was organized at Camp Chase in Feb.,1865, to serve for one year. It left there on March 2 for Nashville,Tenn., and on the 8th left Nashville for Murfreesboro, arriving on the10th. The destination of the regiment was Cleveland, Tenn., where itwent into camp. On May 2 it moved to Dalton, where it remained but a fewdays, moving from this place to Chattanooga. On July 20 the regiment wasrelieved from duty at Chattanooga and ordered to Nashville. It wasmustered out on Sept. 18, 1865, in accordance with orders from the wardepartment.

  21. "Hiram Conrad, who is now the owner of the old homestead farm, was bornin Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, being a son of David and Sally (Doup)Conrad, pioneers of that section. He was born on the 1st of October,1849, and was there reared and educated, growing up under the sturdydiscipline of the farm. On the 19th of February, 1869, he was united inmarriage to Miss Elizabeth Powell, daughter of the subject, and theyhave ever since lived on the homestead which he now owns, and he isknown as one of the progressive and reliable farmers of the county andas a man of un-debatable integrity in all the relations of life. He isindependent in politics, voting for whom he thinks best qualified foroffice, and he and his wife hold membership in the EvangelicalAssociation. They have eight children, concerning whom we offer thefollowing brief record: Ida is the wife of Rankin Wolf, of Washingtontownship; Elsie E. is the wife of Emanuel Roose, of the same township;Ralph remains at the parental home; Grace is the wife of GeorgeMcCannon, of Atwater, Portage county; and Clyde, Craig, Frank and Howardstill remain beneath the parental roof."
