Obituary from the Roanoke Times: DEAN, Hilma Frye, 92, formerly of Austinville, died Sunday, September 10, 2000 in the Raleigh Court Health Center in Roanoke. She was born September 28, 1907 in Pulaski, the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Matilda Bunts Frye, of Wytheville. Ms. Dean retired from the Wythe County School System after 32 years of teaching, primarily at Austinville Elementary School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was an active member of Bethany Methodist Church in Austinville, serving as Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. She was also active with the local senior citizens club. Ms. Dean was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Dean, and a son, Donald A. Dean. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Dean and Shirley Stephenson of Roanoke, and James Carlton and Sharon Dean of Waukegan, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Dean, Christopher Dean, Gordon Dean and Kimberly Dean; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Dean and Kyle Dean; and two sisters, Greta Etter of Rock Hill, S.C., and Lois Sullivan of Arizona. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Billingsley and the Rev. Jean Layell officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2000. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Bethany United Methodist Church. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements. |
