- ↑ 1.0 1.1 1.2 There is much bad information about Hezekiah Thayer. For convenience, both errors may be found in the Aspinwall Genealogy, but probably originated elsewhere (hint: Source:Thayer, Bezaleel. Memorial of the Thayer Name, from the Massachusetts Colony of Weymouth and Braintree, Embracing Genealogical and Biographical, p. 160). The person in question married 3 Nov 1729 Christian Thayer, the widow of Moses Thayer.
First, he is said to be a brother of Moses. This is incorrect. The will of Moses' father, Cornelius Thayer (Suffolk probate 8152) dated 1728, mentions "Christian Thayer the daughter of my son Moses Thayer Deceased", but never names any son Hezekiah. They married a year after the will was written, so Hezekiah should have been separately named if Hezekiah was a brother of Moses.
So he appears to be the son of Nathaniel, the one who with brother Zechariah, the real estate is settled. His brother Richard calls him his youngest brother, as is shown by the list of heirs compiled by the judge: Richard Thayer, Hannah Whiting, Ruth Tower, Daniel Thayer, Dorothy Ludden, Hezekiah Thayer, Lydia Hayden, Deborah Thayer, Esther Thayer. Based on Ruth b. 1689 and Esther about 1702, his birth is suspected to be about the midpoint between them, about 1695.
Hezekiah is said to have died 19 Oct 1754. No such death date is found, but regardless of what caused this error, it is demonstrably incorrect. Suffolk Deed Vol. 108, p. 25 shows that 2 Aug 1764 Hezekiah Thayer conveys land to his two son Silas Thayer and Noah Thayer. On 27 May 1774: administration on Hezekiah Thayer late of Braintree yeoman deceased is granted to Hezekiah Thayer Yeoman of Braintree (Suffolk Probate 15642).
