    Hezekiah DeWeese was the fouth child and second son of Jonathan DeWeese (1723-1777) and his wife Rachel Marchant. His paternal ancestors were from Holland, and came to New York in the 1600s, spent a brief time in Pennsylvania, and came to Delaware in the early 1700s. The family moved from Delaware to Caswell (now Person) County, NC in 1772. Hezekiah married Annis Trickey, daughter of Giles Trickey (1731-1802) and his wife Margaret in Caswell Co., NC on 12 August 1784. (His brother Jonathan married her sister Elizabeth.) Hezekiah and Annis had 9 children: Jonathan (1785-1841), Marchant (1787-1848), William M. (1789-1858), Aaron (1793-1841), Moses (1796-1823), Mary (1798-1845), Nancy (1799- ), Martha (1802-1883) and Rachel (1806-1859). The family moved to Mecklenburg County, NC around 1800.
